Analysis Paralysis

Itโ€™s been a big year for a lot of things. Well, everything except knitting. I made quite a few pairs of socks, due to the portability on my extensive travels. But Iโ€™m a bit bored with socks nowโ€”even with the additional texture work.

Iโ€™m ready for something bigger and bolder. But I’m stuck.

Iโ€™ve been spending lots of time on Ravelry dreaming and filling up my queue. The problem is Iโ€™m not knitting, Iโ€™m just doing a lot of creative dreaming and getting nowhere–fast! And lately I’ve been on a yarn buying spree, especially Blue Sky Fibersโ€™ Baby Alpaca. Iโ€™m up to 7 (!) colors now.

My questions for you are:

  1. Do you ever get stuck in planning mode, and if yes why?; and
  2. How the heck do you jar yourself out if it?

I guess thatโ€™s 2.5 questions. ๐Ÿ˜Š

PS: The project Iโ€™m trying to sort out is a yoked sweater and Iโ€™m choosing between two Interweave patterns I have: the Brimstone Gulch or Meltwater Pullover in Icelandic colors (see below). And suddenly, I’m looking up patterns for palazzo pants. Geez!

PPS: He chose Option 2. I’d better get winding.

  1. Either of those two patterns would stop me before I started, as I am incapable of doing stranded knitting: talk about chaotic tangles !!!!

To be honest, I find that the semi-frozen state of which you write has always to do with not being totally driven about a project – it means the genuine enthusiasm simply isn’t present. I do hope that if such were to prove the case, you will manage to overcome its lack, and quicksmart !

      1. Yes ! – looking at a project that one knows is going to be challenging and thus time-consuming inevitably dampens enthusiasm.

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, Kristin !, she said in jolly fashion, dodging the heavy object thrown at her. [grin]
